Reiki (pronounced ray - key) Rei - means "Universal" and refers to the spiritual dimension of the soul. Ki- means "The vital life force energy that flows through all living things." Brief History of Reiki: Dr. Mikao Usui is the founder of Reiki. He "rediscovered" the spiritual system known as Reiki in the 1800's in Japan. During a 21 day fast and meditation atop Mt. Kura-Yama, Usui discovered he could activate healing through the laying of hands. He passed his knowledge to his followers, one of which was Churjiro Hayashi, who ran a clinic in Tokyo. Hayashi, in turn, taught Mrs. Hawayto Takata, a Hawaiian. Mrs. Takata practiced and taught Reiki in Hawaii and in the 1970's, she brought it to the Mainland. It is because of Mrs. Takata that so many in the West have been trained and practice Reiki.
After the attunement process in each of the three degrees, the student will undergo a 21-day cleanse process. Due to the raised vibratory rate of the physical and etheric bodies, old dense negative energy is forced "to the surface", and is released.
Solid matter does not really exist. Everything is composed of energy, thus everything has a vibration. Even rocks and minerals are made of energy; they simply have a lower rate of vibration. To understand the concept of Hypnosis, we must first understand how it affects oneself. Think of your mind as an iceberg; the 10% you see floating above the surface represents your conscious mind and the 90% unseen, below the surface part of the iceberg represents your unconscious.
The consciousness mind is the very limited part of us. It's the part of the mind that allows one to be aware of things; things in ones immediate awareness are in ones conscious mind. The conscious mind has the ability to analyze things, to make judgements about what is right or wrong. It is the part of the mind that limits us and tells us what is possible.
The unconscious mind is not as rigid as or as analytical as the conscious mind. More importantly, it's not as limited as the conscious mind. This is the part of the mind that hypnosis works on primarily. The term unconscious and conscious was made popular by Freud. He developed the idea that there were layers to human consciousness. He thought that certain psychic events take place "below the surface" or in the unconsciousness mind. A good example is dreaming. Freud at that time was experimenting heavily with hypnosis. Most bodily processes are not consciously controlled (breathing, blinking, blood circulation). Creative ideas do not come from conscious thinking. These specific ideas come when the mind spontaneously moves from one thought to the next. We often wake up in the morning with an insight or solution to a problem we previously had none for.
What is hypnosis? It's a state or condition in which the client becomes highly responsive to suggestions. The hypnotized individual seems to follow instructions in an uncritical, automatic fashion and responds only to those aspects of the environment made relevant by the hypnotist. If the client is profoundly responsive, he/she may hear, see, feel, smell, and sometimes even taste in accordance with the suggestions given regardless of the fact that these reactions may be in direct contradiction to the actual stimuli that are affecting the client. Furthermore, memory and awareness of self can be altered by suggestions. All of these effects can be extended post-hypnosis and integrated into the individual's everyday waking activity.
Who can be hypnotized? Some people believe that only fools can be hypnotized. The truth is because hypnosis requires concentration; the best clients are actually the more intelligent of the population. Genius's or people with high IQ's are the most ideal candidates.
Who can't be hypnotized? Infants and children under age of 4 cannot be hypnotized as they have a lack of concentration. Additionally, intoxicated people, those on drugs or alcohol, people with schizophrenia and people with large amounts physical pain cannot be hypnotized because these things distract from concentration.
Suggestions. Unconscious suggestions are at work all the time. Even though we are not aware of them, we constantly, unknowingly program ourselves using suggestions. Example: An agent hears his client tell him that premiums are too high and he will automatically think: "I'm losing the client."
Self-hypnosis is the method of hypnotizing oneself with one's own voice or thoughts. Affirmations or positive statements are used in conjuncture and are based on rational thinking to overcome stress and anxiety. These affirmations are repeated again and again in the sub conscious mind so that the person is motivated to achieve his goals and targets. Self-hypnosis can also be done without affirmations, depending on the needs of the person.
Self hypnosis helps in the relaxation of body. It relieves anxiety and eliminates stress hormones like adrenaline. It frees the mind of unpleasant thoughts, changes ones outlook towards life and makes the mind more focused towards positive visions and goals. Self- hypnosis is much more affordable as you do not need to consult your hypnotherapist before every treatment.
Here is an example of self-hypnosis. These are 10 simple steps to overcome stress by yourself:
Step 1 - Sit in a comfortable and calm place.
Step 2 - Close your eyes and take a deep full breath exhaling completely till you feel your lungs empty entirely. Inhale one more time to let in clean, refreshing air. Hold the air in for 5 seconds and then exhale again. Repeat this 2-3 times until you feel relaxed all over. This step cleanses the lungs and fills them with fresh air creating a relaxed state.
Step 3 - Focus your attention on your knees relaxing them first. Follow the same process as you move mentally down to your calves, ankles, feet and toes, relaxing them all. You should feel as if everything below your knee is loose and relaxed.
Step 4 - Relax your thigh, hip and waist the same way, slowly. Feel your thigh becoming heavy and relaxed in your seat.
Step 5 - Next relax your chest. Relaxing your chest includes relaxing the internal organs as well. Focus on relaxing your lungs, heart, stomach etc. Allow your breaths to become effortless and deeper, more regular and much more relaxed.
Step 6 - Continue up the body in the same way relaxing your shoulders, arms, forearms, hands, fingers, neck and throat. Allow your head to droop loose in your neck and all the neck muscles to relax.
Step 7 - Next relax the muscles in your face completely till it is smooth and loose. Relax your jaw and let your teeth come away from each other. Relax the muscles around your eyes.
Step 8 - Let your fears, worries and tensions slip away from your head, down through your shoulders, continuing through the body and reaching all the way to the tip of your big toe.
Step 9 - Deepen your thoughts. Internally repeat positive statements that you have prepared for this relaxation session. Repeat this exercise and the affirmations repeatedly until you have gone through the process 8-10 times.
Step 10 - Open your eyes and allow yourself to feel the change. You should feel as if you have just woken up from a very long, deep sleep. You should feel more relaxed, energetic and refreshed; your mind and body very clear.
Try to do these 10 steps daily or at least 3-4 day a week for 15-20 minutes. The results are highly beneficial and long lasting. You will begin to slowly notice steady improvement as your thinking becomes more philosophical and your body and mind are relieved from day to day stress. Long term, unsolved issues will become less of a burden the longer you continue this weekly exercise.
Alternative methods like counting back from 100 to 1 in reverse order can be used to achieve complete relaxation. Additionally, imagine looking at a black board and begin to write the letters of the alphabet with your imagination sub sequentially erasing them. Repeat this again and again till you are completely relaxed. Then as usual repeat the affirmations.
